Cardiovascular Health Knowledge and Interface Programme
This innovative programme provides Yeats College Biology and Chemistry students with a unique opportunity to develop their understanding and provide direct interaction with cardiovascular medicine, health and well-being. It will provide students with a greater understanding and relevance of their current studies in Biology and Chemistry thus cultivating a real desire to pursue a career in the medical field.
Students will complete their syllabus at the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre where they will interface with a range of medical and allied health professionals and gain an insight into real-world clinical practice.
The programme includes the following:
Observation of a live cardiac surgery & cardiology procedures together with a wide range of diagnostic tests, including echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, blood pressure and cardiac event monitoring.
Interactive lectures and workshops with medical consultants, purposefully designed to develop knowledge of the cardiovascular system, heart disease and stroke. In addition, students will engage with the disciplines of physiotherapy, dietetics, psychology and nursing in the area of cardiovascular disease prevention and management.
Practical skills training sessions which will include; pulse taking (and its role in stroke prevention) and CPR & defibrillation (how to respond to medical emergencies with life-saving skills).
